Emre Can has been linked to a host of European clubs with his current contract set to end in the summer of 2018. Recent reports claim Borussia Dortmund might one of the horses to join the pursuit over the German international.
Rumours of a possible transfer emerged after a contract extension with the Reds did not fit the desires of Can who demanded a release clause. Needless to say, Liverpool management thought the release clause to be too low and now might be ready to cash in on him in the upcoming transfer window.
Like almost every other German player, Can is technically strong and his added flair on the ball makes him a threat if given a few yards of space outside the box. Praised by fans and pundits alike, Can has been compared to the likes of Michael Ballack for his style of play.
Although primarily a defensive midfielder who is versatile enough to play in defence if the situation demands, Can has a good range of passing and has been praised by national team coach Joachim Low for having a good overall game. He is strong on the ball and never shies away from a tackle.
Can won the BBC goal of the season and the Carling goal of the season for his stunning overhead kick against Watford last season.
It has come to light from the statements of Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc that the German outfit might look to approach the 23-year-old on a pre-contract agreement when the transfer window opens.
Before moving to Liverpool in the summer of 2014, Can primarily developed his game in Germany at first appearing for the Bayern Munich academy. Later he was allowed to join Bayer Leverkusen with a buy-back option which Munich did not activate later on. With heaps of Bundesliga and Premier League experience he can be the vital addition to resurrect Dortmund’s season.
Dortmund have fallen way below title contention with 28 points and in the 3rd spot of the league table. Newly appointed manager Peter Stoger has reignited a fresh bout of energy into the team after taking over on 10th December with 2 wins in the first 2 matches against FSV Mainz and Hoffenheim.
With a poor European campaign in the first half of the season, Dortmund fans are anticipating an improved display in the Europa League. Even if they do not invest heavily in the January transfer window, Can will be a brilliant addition ahead of the following season.
