Jurgen Klopp could be one of the busiest managers in the January transfer window as his side has a chance of doing something special this season, if they are able to cover for their frailties, by adding to their squad in the transfer window.
The Reds are in desperate need of a new defender and maybe even a midfielder and there are a number of names that are doing the rounds, getting the fans excited. However, every now and then, there are stories that come out, and put a smile on the face of the reader and one such story, published by Tuttosport claims that Liverpool could make a move for Brazilian star Alex Teixeira, in January.
Remember Teixeira? The Shakhtar Donetsk man who was the subject to the first transfer saga under new manager Jurgen Klopp?
The 27-year old turned into a top transfer target for Liverpool back at the start of 2016 and the player himself came out to reveal that he would love to join the Reds. However, Liverpool were not willing to meet his valuation, which saw him complete a £38m move to CSL outfit Jiangsu Suning later that window.
Two years later, Liverpool managed to sign the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah for their wings, who are working wonders but reports today claim that Liverpool are alerted to the fact that Teixeira is being sold in January. Do you think they need him now?
As things stand, the 27-year old will struggle to get on to the bench, let alone onto the first team, on a regular basis. An attacking midfielder by trait, the Brazilian has great vision and a gifted technique but what makes him an exciting prospect is his ability to hold on to the ball under pressure and find passes that can break defences constantly.
His discipline and hard work will not really impress Klopp but he can always work on it. What will impress the manager, however, is his versatility, which allows him to play on either wing or even as a CF, a role he has taken up well in China.
He has eight goals and two assists in 19 CSL appearances this season but his record of 67 goals and 16 assists in 146 Premier Liga appearances, is what attracted Liverpool in the first place. Playing in a, not so competitive league, could have affected his form but Teixeira is still a decent buy for the Reds.
Liverpool’s attack is too well settled for Teixeira to be considered but with Barcelona hot over heels of Philippe Coutinho, it might not be a bad idea for the Reds to go back to the Brazilian, and give him a chance for the rest of the season.
He is nowhere a close enough replacement for Coutinho but he will give Liverpool the time to find one and has the quality to turn into a match-winner, something they will desperately need.
Julian Draxler seems to be Liverpool’s best option to replace Coutinho at the moment but do you think Teixeira will make the loss of Coutinho a little less painful?
