Manchester City have been breaking records by the week as Pep Guardiola, in his second season in the Premier League, has made the most competitive league in world football look all too easy. His side have dropped just two points all season, halfway through the season, and are strolling their way to the title.
The manager will be happy with the returns from his players this season but will look to add more quality to it, to make sure that they can compete on all four fronts and the January transfer window will give them a great opportunity to do so.
While the backline is something Guardiola will desperately want to improve, reports in media continue to claim that he is also looking to add to his attack. An attack that has scored 56 goals in just 18 games this season.
Reports from The Mirror claim that Manchester City have joined the race to sign Ivory Coast winger Wilfried Zaha, who has been the best player for Crystal Palace, since his move to London from Manchester back in 2015. Though Palace are adamant that he is not for sale, Manchester City are ready to pay up to £40m for his serves, which could be too hard to turn down.
But is Zaha a man City should spend on?
With just 16 goals in 96 top-flight appearances for Crystal Palace, Zaha’s numbers do no justice to his quality on and off the ball, on the field. A hard-working winger with serious skill and tenacity, the 25-year old is the right mixture of pace and precision and his direct approach to the game is what makes him a dangerous player.
Having won games single-handedly for Palace in the last two seasons, Zaha also has four goals in 12 games this season, and is one of the major reasons for the Eagles to be hopeful about their safety in the top flight.
He is strong with his hold up play and unselfish in setting his teammates up for goals in the final third. His intelligent movements in and around the box along with a willingness to create and retain possession of the ball, are all qualities that earned him a move to Manchester United back in 2013.
He moved to the Selhurst Park and has truly turned into a match-winner and deserves to play for clubs fighting at the top half of the table. So it does not come as a surprise that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are also interested in his services.
At the Etihad, Leroy Sane, one of the most in-form wingers in Europe at the moment and Raheem Sterling, top scorer for Manchester City, are both in devastating form at the moment but are backed up by Bernardo Silva and Gabriel Jesus, both of who are not genuine wingers.
The quality of Sterling and Sane cannot be easily replaced in the first team but Zaha can do a great job, off the bench or as a cover, and can help City keep their momentum.
His last move to a top club failed but Zaha could definitely turn into a superstar with this move to the Etihad. But do you think he is the right man for City?
