Fiorentina starlet Federico Chiesa has been making waves all around Europe this season with his stunning performances in the Serie A. Son of revered Italian footballer, Enrico Chiesa, a series of top European clubs are apparently interested in securing the services of the 20-year-old.
Premier League giants Liverpool have been one of those big clubs seeking the signature of Federico Chiesa. The Reds have been tracking the progress of the Italian youngster for quite some time now and could finally make a move next summer. However, they face stiff competition from fellow PL rivals Spurs, Chelsea and Italian giants Juventus.
Chiesa, 20, has emerged as one of the most important players for Fiorentina this season. After making a breakthrough at the end of last season, the youngster has already established himself as a first regular for the Violas.
He has featured in 17 matches in all competitions this season, scoring four goals and providing three. Though these numbers might seem rather dull for a winger and certainly for someone, who has been valued around £53m by his club, Chiesa’s actually much more than just a regular winger.
Despite his tender age of just 20, the Italian makes a strong case for being the most matured youngster in the whole of Serie A this season. His true qualities lie in his adaptation and versatility which helps him thrive in any kind of situation.
Chiesa could be used as a right winger as well as a right wingback, which is particularly handy for a team, who likes to exhibit a three-man backline. Although Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp prefers the more clinical four at the back defensive scheme, Chiesa could still be an intriguing addition to the side.
First and foremost, the Reds have suffered from injuries for the most part of the last few seasons. This season, for instance, the Merseysiders were in grave danger, for a time, when talismanic winger Sadio Mane got injured. Fortunately for the Reds, Mohammed Salah stepped up to the plate to provide the necessary attacking flair to recover the loss of Sadio Mane.
Therefore, Federico Chiesa could add the much-needed depth in the offensive department. Furthermore, his versatility and adaptation will help him quickly get used to the English football as well as serving as a great utility player for coach Jurgen Klopp. Put simply, he could be a killer upgrade to Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain.
