Manchester City have been absolutely ruthless and unforgiving in the Premier League this season. They have bulldozed past almost every opponent they have encountered with relative ease. Apart from their 1-1 draw with Everton in the early stage of the season, City have won 17 of their 18 games so far in the English top division and are currently placed at the top of the league table with 52 points to their name.
In their last outing, they bulldozed past Tottenham Hotspur with relative ease as they clinched a 4-1 victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s troops at the Etihad Stadium and seemingly appeared to be unstoppable. The architect behind the transformation of the blue half of Manchester into a side which is obsessed with the idea of bulldozing their opposition week in and week out has been Pep Guardiola. The Spaniard’s tutelage is carving magic and there is no doubt about the same.
Guardiola was brought to Manchester City after his spell of three years with German Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich. During his spell with the Bavarians, the Spaniard won the Bundesliga title in each of his three seasons and also managed to navigate them to the last four of the Champions League in all three seasons. Prior to that, he managed Barcelona for four seasons and earned three La Liga titles, two Champions League, and other silverware to make a lasting impact in the game of football.
Guardiola has been a manager who has made his name for not only winning titles or carving glories but also revolutionizes the players he works with. Tactically outstanding and very flexible with his decision-making process, the 46-year-old has created frightening teams and has worked well with some of the finest players in the world. In his first season in the Premier League, he finished 3rd and was knocked out of the Champions League at the last sixteen stage and was also unable to bag any other domestic silverware.
However, the board, never for a moment, doubted his calibre and Manchester City are now reaping the dividends for their patience. The club is now preparing to create a dynasty with him, similar to the one which Manchester United created with Sir Alex Ferguson, and are keen to hand him a new deal. With their win over the Lilywhites last weekend, they have extended their record winning run to 16 games in the Premier League and with his contract set to expire in 2019, it would be wise if City chalk out an extension.
