West Ham United are currently doing well in the Premier League under new manager David Moyes after their poor start to the season. However, they are still in need of reinforcements when the transfer window opens in January. The Hammers are now sitting in 15th place in the Premier League table, just two points above the dreaded relegation zone.
It is likely that Moyes might have to sell players before he is able to bring in new additions to the club after the Hammers spent a lot of money over the summer. With problems at both ends of the pitch, the West Ham boss is now in a dilemma to sell some of his players who might be deemed surplus to requirements at the East London club so that he can fund moves for the prime candidates in his January wishlist.
Let’s take a look at three players that the Hammers need to let go in January to try and steer the club in the right direction and avoid a potential relegation.
Andre Ayew
The 28-year-old has made 17 appearances for the club this season and has scored 5 goals and bagged 2 assists. However, his recent injury setbacks are a huge concern, especially when West Ham are facing the possibility of a relegation dogfight in the second half of the season. It’s high time that the Hammers let him go and in turn, bring in a fresh face who has the capability to help West Ham avoid the drop this season.
It is also fair for the Ghanaian to go to a club where he can resurrect his career by playing regular first-team football.
Andy Carroll
The striker has failed to live up to the high expectations at West Ham and similar to Ayew, he is highly prone to injuries. David Moyes needs players who he can trust to play week in and week out in their efforts to try and save themselves from relegation.
The English forward can definitely be an asset on his day with his commanding presence and ability to head the ball, but he’s susceptible to injuries and is yet to score a goal in his 9 appearances for the club this season.
Diafra Sakho
The Senegalese ace has been used on a number of occasions this term so far. However, he has not started in any of these matches and has had to play the second fiddle behind the likes of Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic. Also, the player has been far from impressive and that might lead to his departure in the next transfer window, given the right offer is tabled by the interested parties.
