Huddersfield Town are lining up a move for Chelsea wonder-kid Kyle Scott. The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects to come through the Chelsea youth ranks and recent reports are now claiming that his contract negotiations have stalled with the club over a new deal.
The Terriers are reportedly ready to pounce for the signature of the midfielder who has just 18 months to run on his current deal with the Blues. He has been subject to a lot of speculation in recent times with a whole host of scouts watching him in action while he put in an impressive display for the Londoners in their Checkatrade trophy victory over MK Dons.
The youth prospect was denied a loan move to Reading on deadline day after Chelsea struggled to tie down a deal for Danny Drinkwater. Scott has failed to break into the Chelsea first-team this season and has only featured for the Under-21’s in their spectacular 4-0 triumph away at MK Dons in the Checkatrade trophy, a few weeks back.
However, the Bath-born midfielder did make the bench for Chelsea in their opening two Premier League encounters and their league cup win over Everton at Stamford Bridge.
The youngster’s current contract with the Blues runs out in the summer of 2019 and some reports have suggested that Chelsea are keen on extending his stay at the club. It is believed that finances are not a big issue for the player but the fact that he needs to play regular first-team football at this juncture of his career to help him develop and reach his potential. And that’s something that the London club has failed to provide so far.
David Wagner is eager to work with younger players at Huddersfield to build for a bigger and brighter future. The Terriers currently find themselves in 11th place in the Premier League standings following a big away win at Watford on Saturday. He can definitely help Scott develop and fulfil his potential at Huddersfield but only if he is able to convince the Blues to sell their prized starlet. The 20-year-old should get enough game-time at John Smith’s stadium if he is able to impress David Wagner with his football and a potential move to Yorkshire might work out for all parties.
It remains to be seen whether the Yorkshire club can fend off stiff competition from former Premier League champions Leicester City in the race for the midfielder’s signature.
