Valencia has reportedly shown interest in Arsenal winger Theo Walcott. According to latest reports, the La Liga club has set their sights on Walcott as their primary target ahead of the January transfer window next month. The 28-year-old has found life tough at the Emirates so far with first-team chances limited this season. The English wide man is yet to start a single Premier League match for the Gunners this season and has also been excluded from the Gunners’ match-day squads in recent weeks.
Some sources are already claiming that Everton, Southampton and West Ham United are all interested in the player and now, a report in Spain has suggested that Valencia are set to join in on the hunt for his signature when the transfer window commences in January. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled out the possibility of any significant departures in January with the club still fighting in all four competitions.
However, Walcott has not seen enough action in the Europa League and Carabao Cup which has put his future at the North London club in doubt. He also seems to be a misfit for the current formation that the Gunners are trying to deploy.
Valencia are currently in second place in the La Liga standings, just five points behind league leaders, Barcelona. It is no doubt that they can make use of Walcott’s attributes as they try to put up a good fight for the La Liga title. However, it remains to be seen whether they can afford his wages and moreover, his transfer fee with strong competition from other Premier League clubs.
Walcott has made 11 appearances for Arsenal this season, scoring 4 goals and making three assists in the process. He also has 267 Premier League appearances to his name and has found the back of the net 65 times and made 49 assists during that time. The 28-year-old is highly experienced in English football and it seems likely that he will consider a future in the Premier League. With Arsenal currently struggling to keep pace in the race for the top 4 positions, Arsene Wenger can use someone of Walcott’s talents to cope with the busy Christmas schedule that is coming up in the next few weeks.
The England international’s last league appearance for the North Londoners came as a late substitute in the 2-0 victory over Brighton in October. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners let him go next month with the competition for his services just starting to heat up.
