Rangers will host St. Johnstone on Saturday at the Ibrox Stadium after securing a narrow victory away at Hibernian on Wednesday. They are currently trailing league leaders and rivals Celtic by five points, having played a game more in the Scottish Premiership. Graeme Murty’s men now have the opportunity to close the gap to just two points with a victory against seven placed St. Johnstone. Both teams will be going out to win which will make this contest an entertaining one.
The recent history of this fixture doesn’t make a good reading for the underdogs. St. Johnstone has not won in their last five encounters with Rangers. They have lost the last three meetings with the Glaswegian club but will now look to put an end to that run on Saturday. Graeme Murty is expected to line up in a 4-1-3-2 formation and will be forced to make a change for this game after veteran forward Kenny Miller fell victim to an injury in their last match away at Hibernian.
4-1-3-2 Rangers Predicted Lineup To Face St. Johnstone
Defence
Wes Foderingham will start in goal for Rangers and the English goalkeeper will be protected by a back four of Bruno Alves and Danny Wilson at the heart of the defence. James Tavernier will resume his duties as a right-back while Declan John will take his position at the left side of the backline.
The Rangers defence has conceded 20 goals in 18 league games in the Scottish Premiership and their interim manager will now hope that his side can keep a clean sheet against St. Johnstone on Saturday.
Midfield
Ross McCrorie will play as a holding midfielder and will be responsible to do all the dirty work in midfield. The trio of Jason Holt on the right, Jamie Barjonas through the centre and Josh Windass on the left will play just ahead of him as part of the Rangers midfield.
Windass has been in a rich vein of form of late after scoring the equaliser against Hibernian in midweek. He will hope to continue his goal scoring run versus St. Johnstone as well.
Attack
Alfredo Morelos scored the winner against Hibernian on Wednesday night and will once again be in line to start for Rangers. He might be paired up with Daniel Candeias up front following Kenny Miller’s recent injury in their last match.
The Rangers attack has been scoring goals for fun in the league which has seen them find the back of the net 37 times in the Scottish Premiership, a feat that can only be matched by the league leaders, Celtic.
