Reports have emerged that Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil prefers a move to Manchester United over Barcelona and reunite with Jose Mourinho.
They both had worked together to win the La Liga title in the 2011-12 season and the Copa Del Rey in 2010-11. Ozil mainly featured in the number 10 role under Mourinho and lead the assists record in Europe on multiple seasons at Real Madrid. Still clearly a top pick in the books of the United manager, Ozil knows he will be an immediate addition to the first team at Old Trafford.
Ozil is a player who has idolised Zinedine Zidane his whole life and in some aspects of the game does reflect the French maestro. The close control and intelligence to break down defences with just one pass are somewhat similar to what Zidane used to be known for. This style of play works really well when you have efficient and clinical finishers in front of you evident from Ozil’s time in Real Madrid with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale in front of him.
Out of all the possibilities, Manchester United seems the most likely destination, as he is already accustomed to the gameplay that Mourinho implements. With the likes of Paul Pogba behind him and the blistering pace and skill of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on the wings not to mention, the scoring beast in Romelu Lukaku as the lone striker up front, Ozil will be the perfect piece to link everything together.
Manchester United suffered a heavy 1-3 loss to league leaders, Manchester City and dropped 11 points below them in the Premier League. They bounced back on Wednesday with a 1-0 win against Bournemouth and are eager to somehow catch up to their rivals by the end of the season. With an immediate need of a quality left-back, Mourinho is still on the lookout for more attacking firepower. Last year’s signing, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has fallen out of favour with the manager and might be sold in January.
With Barcelona already preparing to place another bid for Liverpool star, Philippe Coutinho it can be said that Ozil’s decision to choose Manchester United over the Catalan giants might be a smart one. The Brazilian is more suited to Barcelona’s style of play while Ozil is to Manchester’s.
Arsenal are going to try for a final time to persuade their star playmaker to stay at the club. The German international demanded a wage bill of £300,000 per week. Arsenal’s initial offer of around £235,000 was turned down which lead to a rise in controversies over Ozil’s future in the summer. He has been in brilliant form for the Gunners this season almost singlehandedly creating attacks for the side. But under the current circumstances and the lack of promise for the remainder of the season he might already have made up his mind about leaving.
