Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool dropped two more points on Wednesday as Alan Pardew’s West Bromwich Albion, who are yet to score a goal under their new manager, frustrated the Reds to a 0-0 draw at Anfield. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah missed a couple of decent chances as Liverpool struggled to break West Brom down constantly enough during the game.
Dominic Solanke was denied a goal in the second half as the hosts failed to break the deadlock and dropped out of the top-4, standing level on points with Tottenham Hotspur. Here are the player ratings for the Reds in this 0-0 draw:
Loris Karius (7):
Was quick to release the ball and was pro-active all night, dominating his box, on his way to a clean-sheet.
Trent-Alexandre Arnold (8):
Probably Liverpool’s best player in the first half, TAA made a number of direct runs into the West Brom half and delivered a number of delightful crosses, keeping his side in the hunt.
Dejan Lovren (6):
Still prone to a mistake or two every game and had his hands full against Rondon, who was exceptional.
Ragnar Klavan (6):
Did well when he had to deal with Rondon and Robson-Kanu and played a role in helping his side to a clean-sheet.
Andrew Robertson (7):
Made a number of superb tackles to win the ball back early and found himself in dangerous positions in the final third, time and again, but failed to do much with it on most occasions.
Emre Can (7):
Showed great urgency in the midfield and was willing to take on his man but could not provide the killer pass that could unlock the West Brom defence.
Georginio Wijnaldum (6):
Did nothing fancy and kept the ball rolling but needed to do much more than just wait for things to happen.
Philippe Coutinho (6):
Lost the ball far too easily and also misplaced a fair number of passes by his creativity in midfield is what created even those half-chances that fell to the Reds.
Mohamed Salah (6):
Had a bright first-half, where he should have scored and though did his best in the second, failed to have the kind of an impact he usually has.
Roberto Firmino (5):
Should have scored early in the game and had an average outing, where he could not create much, in front of goal.
Sadio Mane (4):
Looks low on confidence since coming back from an injury as he looked off pace and his touch also constantly let him down.
Substitutes:
Dominic Solanke (6):
Had a goal ruled-out late in the game for handball but otherwise, did not add too much creativity to the Liverpool attack.
Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain (7):
Showed great urgency in the last 10 minutes, taking on the West Brom defenders and constantly pushing them back. Came close to scoring and is only getting more confident in the Red of Liverpool.
Joe Gomez (N/A):
