Chelsea are set to re-sign Borussia Monchengladbach star, Thorgan Hazard. According to recent reports, Chelsea could still possess three Hazards in their team following their interest in reacquiring the services of their former player, Thorgan Hazard. The Blues already have Eden Hazard playing for their first team and his younger brother, Kylian Hazard playing for the Under-23 side in August.
Thorgan is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga for Borussia Monchengladbach and has caught the eye with some impressive performances this season. According to famous German news outlet, Bild, the Blues are still keeping tabs on the attacker’s progression in Germany. The middle brother in the Hazard family has featured in 17 matches for Gladbach in this campaign and has scored 6 goals and made 6 assists during that time.
Chelsea has already made a habit of re-signing former players as evidenced by their moves for David Luiz, Didier Drogba and Nemanja Matic during the past few years. In an interview in February this year, Thorgan opened up about the possibility of a Premier League return. He said, “The Bundesliga is a good championship and for now, I want to stay here. In the future maybe I will be in England again. I hope I can end my career in Belgium but at the moment I don’t think about the end of my career.”
The 24-year-old has made a total of 136 appearances for the Bundesliga club which has seen him score 31 times while providing 32 assists. He definitely has a lot of talent but it remains to be seen whether he can live up to his unfulfilled potential at Stamford Bridge if Chelsea manages to re-sign him in the near future. It might take some time for him to readjust to Premier League football. However, the potential link-up between him and Eden Hazard is a prospect that Chelsea fans will be eager to witness!
Antonio Conte’ men have struggled in the league so far which has seen them fall way off the title race following Manchester City’s flawless start to the season. They are currently 16 points behind the league leaders ahead of the busy Christmas period. It would take some effort for them to crawl back into the title race. For now, Conte’s main focus would be to build for the future and the potential recruitment of Thorgan Hazard might be a step in the right direction for the London club.
It remains to be seen whether the Blues are successful is reacquiring their former talent.
