One of the Premier League’s top sides, Manchester United, have been linked with Fulham left-back Ryan Sessegnon. Fulham are currently scouting for the 17-year-old’s replacement after stating their intention to sell him in the January transfer window.
Reports claim the Red Devil’s are preparing a bid of £50m for the services of the highly praised u-19 England international who has netted the ball 4 times and registered 2 assists in 21 EFL Championship outings for the Lillywhites. At the age of 16 years and 81 days only, Sessegnon made his senior debut on 9th August 2017.
The teenager is still a student of the game but his performances on the pitch tells something else. His maturity and composure at such an young age is hard to comprehend but equally impressive to witness. He quite deservedly has attracted attention from all over Europe since signing his first contract with Fulham on 18th May 2017 set to end after the summer of 2020.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is currently dealing with a lack of quality options in the left-back position has been seeking out possible targets to approach in January. The club has been heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspurs left-back Danny Rose and Alex Sandro of Juventus.
With the seasoned professionals already under consideration, Mourinho might not shy away from the possibility of landing the young defender from Fulham. Hailed as the next in line after Rose in the England squad, Sessegnon will be exuberant over the prospect of appearing in a Manchester United shirt.
If Rose does end up leaving, Mauricio Pochettino will have to find a replacement in January in order to fulfil their ambitions for the remainder the season. Ben Davies has appeared for the Spurs on several occasions this season but has failed to replicate the quality of Rose.
Pochettino is well aware of the challenges he is yet to face having progressed into the knockout stages of the Champions League while competing for a European spot finish in the Premier League.
With an average age of 25 years, Pochettino always promotes young talent and therefore might just be the perfect destination for Sessegnon after the exit of Danny Rose.
Mostly operating from the left-back position, the u-19 England international is capable of playing upfront in the wing position too. Considering his two options, Sessegnon might follow in the footsteps of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs and break into the first team of the Red Devils giving way to a decadent career.
The possibility of signing with the Spurs might also end up to be fruitful under Pochettino who has already promoted the careers of many young players in his time in the Premier League as manager of Southampton and Tottenham.
Wherever he ends up going, Sessegnon’s priority should be to find maximum game time as that will ensure his meteoric rise and a definitive future in the English national team.
