Since Sam Allardyce took charge it has been a pretty fascinating run for Everton in the Premier League. The former England gaffer has been given the task to keep them awake in the Premier League and he has done a brilliant job so far.
But still, a number of problems are there for Allardyce to solve with defence being the primary issue. According to reports, Everton are ready to snatch a deal for Sunderland defender Lamine Kone.
The Ivorian international is currently having a torrid time at the Stadium of Light as he has been sidelined with an injury which has kept him away from the pitch for the last couple of months.
It was Allardyce who brought Kone at Sunderland and the defender then played a pivotal part as the Black cats stayed afloat in the top tier. But since then Kone’s form has taken a huge downfall and he couldn’t do anything as his side submerged in the agony of demotion last season.
This season too it has been the same thing as there has been a very little improvement in form as Sunderland remain in the relegation zone. Financially they are not very stable at the moment and the club needs funds to clear the financial deadwood from their books.
Kone has been one of the highest wage earners at the Stadium of Light so offloading him would help the Championship side with some huge relief. Everton had a bid rejected for the player in 2016 and they are back in reckoning again.
The defence hasn’t performed up to the mark and Allardyce needs to strengthen the backline to grind out some positivity in the long run. Ashley Williams hasn’t had a good outing while Phil Jagielka has been pretty erratic for the Toffees.
Allardyce is ready to bet big on Kone but only if he proves his fitness. Kone has a contract till 2021 but Sunderland are ready to let him leave for a much cheaper fee.
Although the Black Cats are in the midst of a crisis at the moment, club hierarchy believes they can compensate his departure in near future. Allardyce got the best out of Kone so he must be aware of his qualities.
Big Sam has a reputation for doing well with relegation strugglers but looking at the current condition it seems Everton are aiming for a much higher place in the Premier League table.
