20 year old, Steven Bergwijn has recently shown up on the radar of Premier League sides, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspurs and Bournemouth. His regular appearance for PSV in the Dutch Eredivisie has impressed the clubs, as they are considering a possible transfer in January.
Mostly appearing from the right wing, Bergwijn can also play from the left and as a striker. He made his debut for PSV in 2014 in a home win against Achilles ’29. Ever since, he has played in 44 matches for the club with 4 goals to his name, 2 of them coming this season against NAC Breda and FC Utrecht. Although he has appeared for the majority of the club’s games, he still has not cemented a first-team spot under Philip Cocu.
Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino is currently dealing with the lack of squad depth with his side dropping points in the Premier League constantly. After an impressive group stage performance in the UEFA Champions League, Tottenham are currently sitting in the 6th spot of the league table 15 points behind leaders, Manchester City. Pochettino has to rely heavily on Dele Alli, Christan Eriksen and Harry Kane to lead the attack with not much quality from the bench.
He is eager to strengthen his squad in January to face the remainder of the season, especially after a gruelling December schedule. He will require more quality to face European powerhouses in the knockout stages of Champions League while looking to win one of the domestic cups. Bergwijn will be a great option from the right-hand side with Son Heung-Min on the left.
West Ham United are preparing to invest and provide their newly appointed manager, David Moyes with more options to dig themselves out of the relegation spots by the end of the season. With Johny Evans as their primary transfer target, they are also on the lookout for more attacking firepower.
A side overly stacked with strikers are in desperate need of an out and out winger who can create in the final third along with Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic. Bergwijn will be a perfect fit for the Hammers to provide width to their attack rather than relying on the abilities of their veteran right back, Pablo Zabaleta.
Serie A side, Torino had placed a £9million bid for the U-21 Netherlands international in the summer which got rejected. They have not given up on their pursuit for Bergwijn as they are looking to send another offer to PSV in the January transfer window.
