With the January transfer window not too far away, clubs have been busy chalking their transfer plans. Though we might not see any records broken in January, most clubs in the Premier League will look to add to their cavalry.
Bournemouth are reportedly interested in PSV Eindhoven’s Steven Bergwijn. The Cherries have been in damage control mode off late and are lying in the 14th place in the Premier League table.
Eddie Howe’s side have failed to replicate their previous season’s form and were struggling in the first few matches. But they seemed to have caught the tune as they looked more convincing in the last few seasons. Attack has been their main forte but goals are not coming very fluently this season so the situation has to change. Howe might try to bring some new attackers to the team in a bid to give the side a new shape.
Bergwijn progressed rapidly through the PSV academy and broke through the scene a few years back and since then, he hasn’t looked back. The 20-year-old plays on the right side mainly but can also operate from the left side and if needed, he can also be utilized in a more central role.
Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be interested in the player and might make a bid in January. Mauricio Pochettino is known for his admiration for younger players and this move is the result of his aspiration.
Torino had a bid rejected for the player in the summer and they might come back with a better one. So Bournemouth need to hurry up if they really want the service of the player.
The 20-year-old has a contract till 2021 but he has been craving more game time, which hasn’t been the case for him this season. He only got the chance to start in nine games and he would be hoping for more minutes under the belt at his new club.
The Cherries definitely need some new faces in the attacking department and Bergwijn could be the ideal candidate to fulfil the need. Known for his goal scoring traits, the winger has already represented Holland at various youth levels and has made a name for himself with 21 goals in 41 appearances for the Oranje.
He is touted to be the future star of the Dutch team so Bournemouth will have the opportunity to polish a future gem when the transfer window reopens in January. But do you think he is the right man for Howe?
