Having managed to steadily climb up the points table, Merseyside outfit Everton will now look to break into a place in Europe, by finding some consistency for the rest of the season. Sam Allardyce has already had a positive effect on the squad and he will look to add to it, to make it even stronger in the January transfer window.
However, the massive spending on the squad Ronald Koeman, the previous manager at the club did, has given Allardyce an embarrassment of riches in most positions in the squad and it will also be important for the manager to use them in the right way, to take the team forward.
Big Sam would like to spend on players that suit his style but he will have to assess the quality already at his hand and one player who might benefit from this is French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
The former Southampton man’s move to Old Trafford was a grave failure and he decided to team up with Koeman at the Goodison Park. But he has only looked a shadow of what he was in his days at St Mary’s and finally lost his place in the first team.
His last start for Everton came against his former side in a 4-1 loss but was a part of the team that beat Limassol 3-0 in their final group stage game in the Europa League. This meant that he might not be a part of the side that will play Liverpool at Anfield in one of the biggest games of the season and that will surely not go down well with the player.
However, the 28-year old is ready to work hard and revealed that he wants to prove himself to the new manager, in a recent interview.
Talking to the media, Schneiderlin said, “I want to prove (myself) in every game and of course there is a new manager coming in so it’s a fresh start for everyone. I haven’t had the chance to play the last few games and it is going to be up to me to show what I can do and that I can make a difference to the team.
So does he deserve a fresh start under Allardyce?
The Toffees have used Idrissa Gueye as their first choice defensive midfielder this season and though Schneiderlin is the only real option in the squad to replace him, the French ace has not been able to cement his place in the first team.
Tom Davies, the 19-year old and his versatility have given Allardyce a good balance in the midfield and the youngsters worth to the squad is telling, in his 14 appearances in the top flight already, this season.
Schneiderlin may lack the discipline that Sam Allardyce wants from a team that he is rebuilding but he can add the flair that very few in the current squad can match. So at the moment, he should work hard and perform in every opportunity he is given which can help his quality push him into the first team.
