Everton are lining up an audacious move for Borussia Dortmund striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Toffees’ new boss Sam Allardyce wants to finally address the hole left by Romelu Lukaku in the summer and according to recent sources, Big Sam is planning to make a cheeky £60m move to try and secure the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang when the transfer window opens in January. The Everton manager feels like he can capitalise on his availability, with Dortmund ready to sell their prized asset.
Romelu Lukaku has been banging the goals in for Everton in the last few seasons and was their top scorer in the last campaign. However, he abruptly made a switch to Manchester United in July for a reported fee of an initial £75m but was not replaced by former Everton manager, Ronald Koeman. His absence has left a hole in the Toffees’ attacking set-up and now, Sam Allardyce is finally looking to address the situation by signing another top goalscorer.
Aubameyang has an excellent goal-scoring record in the Bundesliga and has gone on to score 19 goals in 20 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season. The Gabon forward also has two assists to his name. However, he is now set to depart the Bundesliga after a series of controversial incidents following the club’s reluctance to let him go in the summer. There have also been some issues with regards to his conduct which even led to Dortmund suspending him for arriving late in training earlier in the campaign.
The 28-year-old was also sent off in their match against FC Schalke 04 which has escalated his problems with the club even more. Dortmund were 4-0 up in the match but after his dismissal, they gave up a four-goal advantage with the match finishing as a draw in a 4-4 stalemate. It is now looking increasingly likely that the club will finally grant his wish and ship him out of the Bundesliga in the near future.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea have been previously linked with the player but Everton are now planning to enter the race as well with the new manager, Sam Allardyce at the helm. The Toffees are planning to secure a top-class striker with each of the Premier League’s ‘Top Six’ possessing a high-quality frontman in their ranks. If they are to compete with the big boys of the Premier League, Big Sam knows that he will have to conjure up someone from the transfer market who can possibly change their fortunes for the better.
While the Blues of Merseyside are not in the Champions League, they do have the finances to make this club-record transfer happen. It remains to be seen whether the Toffees can fend off stiff competition and make an attempt for his signature in January.
