It seems Crystal Palace have started to recover their lost ground in the Premier League. The Eagles are currently unbeaten in their last four games and have shown a much better display on the pitch.
Despite shaping up pretty nicely in the summer transfer window, Palace failed to make the advantage as former manager Frank de Boer looked completely lost in the Premier League puzzle.
It took a bit time for him to understand the nature of the English top tier but till then it was very late and the Eagles hierarchy decided to replace him with a more experienced Roy Hodgson.
The former England boss didn’t have a good start either but he has been able to stop the wrongdoings as Palace have been on an impressive run in the last few matches. To continue the momentum, Hodgson would be looking to bring in some reinforcements in January.
According to reports, Palace are monitoring Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons. The 22-year-old has hardly been used by Rafa Benitez and Hodgson wants the player at Selhurst Park.
Aarons arrived in the Tyneside from Bristol City back in 2012 on a free transfer. The youngster has made a long way since then but things aren’t the way they were before and Benitez clearly doesn’t seem to rate the player very highly.
The 22-year-old has only featured for 50 minutes in the Premier League and his only start came in the Carabao cup against Nottingham Forest. But the Jamaican born winger would be craving for some more regular game time and he definitely has the flair and creativity to match the demand of the Premier League.
Hodgson recently switched to a more credible 4-4-2 with Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke as the two strikers. So there would be a place up for grabs on the wing and Aarons could show what he is capable of.
There have been takeover talks going on for the Magpies but if it doesn’t materialise till the end of this year, Benitez might have to gather funds by selling some of his players as owner Mike Ashley is unlikely to sanction a big fat transfer kitty for the January window.
Aarons only signed an extension in last summer, so whoever moves for him might have to shell a pretty hefty fine. Palace’s attack already looks decent and if Aarons joins the bandwagon, it would be very hard to chase down the Eagles and will also help them to keep their place in the top flight for one more season.
