Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Valencia loanee, Geoffrey Kondogbia. A report in Sky Sports News has claimed that the French midfielder is being tracked by Spurs and their manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in securing his services. The North Londoners have identified the 24-year-old as a long-term replacement for Mousa Dembele, whose current deal with Spurs is set to expire in 18 months time.
Kondogbia is currently on loan at Valencia from Inter Milan and has been sensational for the La Liga outfit this season. He has been instrumental in Valencia’s excellent run in La Liga which has seen the club push Barcelona at the top of the league standings.
Mauricio Pochettino has kept an eye on the French star ever since his time at AS Monaco and has seen the midfielder join Inter Milan in 2015 since then. The deal was believed to be worth in the region of £30m at the time. The 24-year-old signed a long-term contract of five years with the Italians and eventually featured in 43 Serie A matches spanning across two seasons. However, he was deemed surplus to requirements when the Italian club decided to hire a new manager in the form of Luciano Spalletti last summer.
Valencia’s general director Mateu Alemany reckons that they “have a right to buy at the end of the season and already have an agreement with Kondogbia, should we exercise the option,”. The French international made his senior debut at Lens and eventually joined Sevilla in 2012. Since then, he has gone on to spend two years at AS Monaco and also had the honour of representing his country, France at every level from U16s to the senior side.
With an impressive career that boasts over 50 matches in both Ligue 1 and Serie A, the midfielder has also spent time in La Liga which has seen him take part in 45 games during his time at Sevilla and Valencia. The midfielder has bags of experience in his C.V. but he’s yet to experience Premier League football in England. Mauricio Pochettino’s men have currently dropped out of the top four in the Premier League standings after a recent run of poor results away from home.
The North Londoners are crying out for more inspiration and creativity from the midfield, which Kondogbia can definitely provide. The midfielder has featured in 12 La Liga matches so far and has a knack for scoring and creating goals as evidenced by his 3 goals and one assist for the club in the league this season.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs can replace one of their dependable midfielders, Mousa Dembele with Kondogbia, who has heaps of experience and potential at the mere age of 24.
