Borussia Dortmund will travel to Santiago Bernabeu this midweek as they aim to claim a consolation victory against the European champions Real Madrid.
Both the clubs are experiencing an awful league campaign this season, though Dortmund has been by far the most underwhelming performer in the Champions League this term. Following another winless game last week, Peter Bosz’s job might be on the line should the Black and Yellows fail to win at least a point away at the Bernabeu.
The former Ajax boss has managed only one win in his last eleven games all competitions, with the only victory coming against third-tier opponent FC Magdeburg. Therefore, it will be interesting to how the Dutchman responds to his side’s recent troubles against the champions of Europe this midweek.
Here’s the predicted 3-4-3 Borussia Dortmund lineup to face Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Defence
Roman Burki was by far the best goalkeeper of last week when he managed to save an incredible number of shots in order to keep his side in the game. The Swiss International might have to pull off a similar performance against the mighty Real Madrid this week.
The defensive shape is set to remain intact with Peter Bosz lately preferring the newly used three-man backline. Neven Subotic had a terrible night out against Leverkusen. He will likely make way for Marc Bartra who will partner Sokratis and Marcel Schmelzer in the centre back spots.
American superstar Christian Pulisic and Portuguese sensation Raphael Guerreiro will start as the regular wingbacks for the Black and Yellows.
Midfield
Borussia Dortmund suffered a few huge injury blows when Mario Gotze and Gonzalo Castro were both ruled out for the rest of the year. Gotze is expected to return earlier next year but his absence will be a huge blow for Dortmund nonetheless.
Julian Weigl will deputize the former Bayern Munich sensation in the center of the park, partnering alongside former Real Madrid player Nuri Sahin.
Attack
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will get back into the starting lineup after missing out on the game against Leverkusen. The Gabonese will lead the charge for Dortmund in the offensive department.
Elsewhere, Ukrainian star Andriy Yarmolenko is expected to start as the right winger. While Andre Schurrle will replace injured attacker Maximilian Philipp, who has been also ruled out for the upcoming games due to an injury he suffered against Leverkusen. His absence will also be a major blow for the visiting Dortmund side.
