Everton are ready to move in for West Bromwich Albion defender, Jonny Evans. The new Toffees boss Sam Allardyce is preparing to go on a January spending spree to give his squad a much-needed boost going into the second half of the season. His main focus is to go for players with previous Premier League experience and Jonny Evans fits the bill perfectly.
Sam Allardyce is now ready to pounce on securing the signature of the Baggies’s skipper in a £30m deal following the collapse of his move to Manchester City in the summer. The Northern Ireland international has also been linked with Arsenal recently. The current West Brom boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he will have talks with the defender and will discuss his future to try and figure out his commitment to the club and determine whether he has a future at West Midlands.
In a recent interview, Alan Pardew said: “I think the assurance I need is probably from Jonny more than anybody, and I haven’t met him yet,”
He also stated, “I’m looking forward to seeing him. I think he’s a fabulous player and very important for the club, so I will have a good old discussion with him.”
Guochuan Lai, the Baggies’ Chinese owner was the man responsible for hiring Alan Pardew as the club’s new manager and he wants the Baggies to turn into a sustainable and profitable team following a £170m take over in the summer. It looks like the new French boss will not receive major funds for the January transfer window so the major bulk of his transfer kitty will be generated from player sales.
A possible transfer of club captain, Jonny Evans will go a long way in helping his cause as he tries to recruit some fresh faces and turn some losses to draws and some draws into wins in their fight to save themselves from the drop.
Jonny Evans has a wealth of Premier League experience and has featured in 78 matches for the Baggies so far. He has also made 198 appearances for Manchester United and 35 appearances for Sunderland in the Premier League.
The Blues of Merseyside has struggled to keep clean sheets this season and have shipped in 28 goals in 15 Premier League matches. If Sam Allardyce can manage to sign Jonny Evans, it would bolster his defensive options a lot. However, a hefty transfer fee might be the only stumbling block for the Blues as they go in to compete with the likes of Arsenal for his signature.
