Newcastle United has struggled in the Premier League so far this season. The Magpies have just managed to secure a point in their last six league matches. Rafael Benitez’s men are currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League standings.
One of their main problems this season has been the lack of goals from their strikers. The Tyneside club currently has four first-team forwards in their squad and has scored 14 goals in 15 matches. Dwight Gayle, Joselu, Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic have all failed to establish themselves in Rafael Benitez’s starting eleven. They have just scored seven goals in between them this season.
The Newcastle manager will now look to add to his attacking options and might sell some of his forwards. One name being touted to be shipped out of Tyneside by some sources is Aleksandar Mitrovic. The forward has just bagged two goals in this campaign. However, issues with his conduct have thrown his future into doubt at Newcastle.
Let’s take a look at three options which Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez can opt for to replace the Serbian at Tyneside.
Solomon Rondon
The Venezuelan has scored three goals and made one assist in 16 appearances for West Bromwich Albion this season. However, his form can improve as he’s a striker that thrives on confidence. With his contract set to run out in the summer of 2019, the Magpies can try to move in for him in January and unleash him at Tyneside. Rafael Benitez is looking for a forward who can lead the lines for the Magpies and Rondon’s pace and power make him an ideal candidate to take up that role at Newcastle United.
Iago Aspas
The Spanish striker has been in terrific form for Celta Vigo following his arrival from Sevilla in the summer of 2015. The former Liverpool forward has scored 9 goals and made two assists in 15 appearances for Celta Vigo this season.
Rafael Benitez needs to tap into his Spanish sources to lure him away from Spain but if the Tyneside club can splash the cash for the 30-year-old, then he can turn the Magpies’ fortunes for the better and ensure Premier League safety this season.
Sébastien Haller
The Bundesliga forward has done well for Eintracht Frankfurt this season and is considered as one of the brightest prospects coming out of France. The 23-year-old has scored 8 goals and made four assists in 16 Bundesliga appearances so far. The Magpies can use someone of his goal-scoring ability which might help their cause of finishing as high up the Premier League as possible.
