Kevin Trapp has recently fallen out of favour with Paris Saint-Germain manager, Unai Emery who prefers Alphonse Areola over the German 2 time international. He has managed only 1 appearance in Ligue 1 until now for the defending French champions.
Kevin Trapp has expressed his desire to find more minutes on the pitch and has been left surprised over his current position on the bench.
He said, “”It [the transfer window] is close but we still have six or seven games to win, then we’ll see what happens during the break.”
“I’ve said that I’m happy here, despite my situation. I’ve also had some good talks with the coaches, which is important.”
Kevin Trapp arrived in Paris from the German side, Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2015 for 10 million Euros. When the opportunity presented itself he clinched the first team spot and replaced veteran Italian goalkeeper, Salvatore Sirigu in the 2015-2016 season. He led the team from the back as Paris Saint Germain nabbed four domestic trophies.
However, Unai Emery has had to choose between the two keepers as Alphonse Areola was also eyeing an exit back in September. But the 24-year old’s recent run of games with a possibility of multiple trophies by the end of the season will motivate him to stick with the club for now.
Kevin Trapp’s exit will further cement Areola’s position in the first team as he eyes a place in the French national squad in 2018 World Cup. On the other hand, Trapp might also carve a niche for himself in the German national team when he plays regularly for a side.
Roy Hodgson has suffered quite a few drawbacks over the inconsistencies of Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni. Sitting in the relegation spot in front of West Ham and Swansea City, the Eagle’s manager is looking for a solid body between the sticks.
He will be looking to provide Kevin Trapp with a loan spell to the English side as soon as the transfer window opens in January.
Kevin Trapp’s motivation to prove himself on the pitch is also motivated by the possibility of a place in the German national team in the World Cup. With Manuel Neuer currently nursing a long time injury, it is improbable whether he will appear in the World Cup altogether.
With a run of games in the Premier League, Kevin Trapp can contest for the number 1 spot in the national team against the likes of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Bern Leno. A career opportunity every professional player dreams of.
