Mohamed Salah has been the signing of the summer for the 2017-18 season. The Egyptian came from AS Roma for a fee reported to be around £36.9 million which could and seems likely to rise to £43.9 million. Many people were sceptical about the transfer, given the fact that Salah’s previous experience in the Premier League was a rather poor one with the Egyptian failing to make a mark at Chelsea. However, Klopp remained convinced of Salah’s qualities and the Egyptian repaid the manager’s faith in him by churning out some world-class performances.
The exciting winger who has been bulleting past Premier League and European defences has 16 goals to his name and four assists in 20 appearances.
Such a high scoring stat has caught the attention of Real Madrid who are now interested in bringing the Egyptian to Santiago Bernabeu.
If Salah were to leave, Liverpool would not hit a crisis given the fact that they have enough depth in strength in their attack but remove someone of Salah’s quality would not be an easy task.
Here is a look at the players they can bring in for the season.
Marco Reus
Born and brought up in Dortmund, Reus was also a part of the youth academy at the BVB. After developing his youth career at Dortmund, Reus left for Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2009.
Under Lucien Favre, Reus went on to become a top player in the club and his goal-scoring exploits at the club alerted his former employees to make a move for their former youth academy product.
Reus returned to his home in January 2012 and went on to form a deadly chemistry with Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski. Since rejoining Dortmund, Reus has gone on to score 89 goals for the club. Following the departure of Gotze, Lewandowski and Klopp from Westfalenstadion, Reus became a beacon of loyalty in the modern day football refusing big-money moves and preferred to stay in with BVB.
However, Reus’ move to Liverpool will also be a romantic story for many football fans as a reunion of Klopp and his favourite pupil and the move might be ideal for the Reds.
Thomas Lemar
French sensation Thomas Lemar broke into the big stage of football after a fantastic last season at Monaco. The left-footed attacking midfielder, who can also play as a winger, scored 13 goals and created 14 more in 52 appearances last season. The French winger who was a star player in the free-flowing Monaco team last year created 106 chances alone for the Ligue 1 champions. He will be an ideal replacement for Salah given his small stature and incredible pace to run at defences.
Julian Draxler
Julian Draxler, the German winger who joined Paris Saint-Germain on January 3, 2017, at the tender age of 23, is reportedly ready for a transfer away from the French giants. Draxler’s signing, by the French club back in January, signalled PSG’s continued intent to buy the best players in Europe.
The technically gifted winger who can also play as a playmaker is known for his adaptive ability. His tall, slender build complemented by his work-rate allows him to operate as a winger or an attacking midfielder depending on the team’s requirement. The winger-cum-creative midfielder has a knack for not only creating but also scoring goals for both club and country.
He is likely to add a lot of variety to a Liverpool attack that already looks scary and would be a good option to replace Salah on the right wing.
