Everton are lining up a surprising move for Tottenham Hotspur left-back, Danny Rose. Some reports have claimed that the Toffees are set to join in the race for the 27-year-old defender. The English left-back has been recently linked with a move to Manchester United. The Daily Star has claimed that Spurs are willing to listen to offers for the defender before the January transfer window opens next month.
Tottenham Hotspur has recently sold their former full-back, Kyle Walker for £50m to Manchester City and are now looking to cash-in on their prized left-back as well. Danny Rose has criticised Spurs’ transfer policy in the past and has fallen out with the manager, Mauricio Pochettino. The defender has often been overlooked at Spurs with the manager opting for Ben Davies as a first-team regular. Some sources have suggested that Tottenham are demanding any potential candidates to come up with a bid in the region of £45m to acquire his services.
With Everton new boss, Sam Allardyce expected to be given funds to bring in some quality next month, a move for Danny Rose might be on the horizon. The Toffees have struggled defensively so far in this campaign. They have conceded 28 goals in 15 Premier League matches and currently find themselves 10th in the league standings following two consecutive home victories against West Ham United and Huddersfield Town respectively.
Their first choice left-back is Leighton Baines, who is one of the Premier League’s best in his position. Unless Sam Allardyce wants to replace him or provide him with some strong competition, it remains unclear about his motivation to bring the English full-back into the club. However, the addition of the Spurs left-back will give his squad a massive boost going into the second half of the season.
Danny Rose has only featured in five matches for Spurs in all competitions this season. The veteran full-back has represented England at every youth level and has also earned 14 international caps for the England National Football Team. However, he’s yet to score or assist for his country but will be desperate to play regular first-team football with the 2018 FIFA World Cup kicking off next year. A place in Gareth Southgate’s squad is what’s at stake for Rose and he’s now likely to switch clubs, in order to increase his chances of playing in Russia.
The 27-year-old has made a total of 149 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists. The former Sunderland player has bags of Premier League experience which might help the Toffees in their cause of securing a top-half Premier League finish.
It remains to be seen whether Sam Allardyce will actually make a move for the Premier League left-back, with the two Manchester clubs ready to swoop in for his signature. Do you think the Toffees really need Rose?
