West Ham United’s new manager David Moyes is considering a move for Paris Saint Germain winger Hatem Ben Arfa, according to reports.
Known as the wing wizard, Ben Arfa previously signed for Newcastle in the summer of 2010 and went on play for four years for the club. He rose to prominence under the Alan Pardew and would have gone to play for several more years until a fallout between the player and the manager saw him leave Tyneside.
Ben Arfa spent a season on loan at Hull City before he became a free agent. He was snapped up by OGC Nice where the winger had a very productive spell scoring 18 goals in 37 games. His impressive form earned him a move to the swashbuckling Paris Saint Germain team.
However, since his move to Paris in 2016, Ben Arfa has not been given a starting role, owing to the competition for places in the side and with the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe this season it looks unlikely that the 30-year old will get to play too many games. Paris Saint Germain currently has players of the calibre of Julian Draxler, Lucas Moura and Angel Di Maria who are failing to make the first team cut.
Ben Arfa’s current contract expires at the end of the current season and Moyes is desperate to bring the winger back to England. It will be a challenge of new sorts for the manager, as he would have to convince the player who described his time at England as a Newcastle United player as “hell” and is unlikely to forget the treatment he was given three years ago.
West Ham United are now a club in transition. After a few impressive seasons, the club has failed drastically in the league this time around. It led to the sacking of Slaven Bilic and the fiery Croatian has been replaced by ex-Everton and Manchester United boss David Moyes.
The club has a number of issues to deal with right now. The Hammers brought in impressive attacking enforcers in Arnautovic and Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez over the summer but have not been able to get their game going and sit deep in the bottom half of the table.
The common perception to the Hammers drastic collapse is being reasoned as a lack of balance in the team. The team is too heavily loaded up front with lack of quality midfielders and creators. So Moyes, who will no doubt want to reshuffle the pack to his whims and fancies, will see Ben Arfa as an interesting buy as the Frenchman can provide the much-needed creativity in the Hammers side.
He may not be the best available but is a he a decent option for the Hammers?
