There have been lots of ups and downs for Leeds United this season. The Championship side started the season on a good note and had remained one of the main contenders for a place in the playoffs.
But as the season passes on things have started to falter and the Whites have been left reeling outside of the top six. They came very close last year but some setbacks in the eleventh hour resulted in a large heartbreak for them as they had to settle for a spot just outside of the playoff zone.
But Christiansen has already taken a lesson from his mistakes this season and is ready to make amends. The gaffer would be looking to make some more signings in January.
Leeds have reportedly set eyes on Bologna defender Filip Helander as one of their prime targets in January. The defence has performed pretty badly and Christiansen is likely to address the situation by injecting some fresh faces to the side.
Helander has been pretty reliable in the defence and has been quite regular for bologna this term. He has already featured 12 times this season and is likely to be involved more this season.
His current contract runs until 2019 and Leeds are very interested in roping the player in January. The player reportedly earns much less than what he should have been getting and switching his allegiance might allow him to earn a more lucrative pay package.
The 24-year-old made his first appearance for Sweden in this year only and is in the contention for a place in the World Cup squad of the Swedish team. The central defender also is well acquainted with Leeds defender Pontus Jansson as the two played at Malmo and there is a large possibility he could be reunited with Jansson again at the Elland Road.
Aston Villa have also been watching the defender for quite a while. Tommy Elphick might be offloaded and there would be enough room for a defender. Financially the Villans are not so stable and Steve Bruce might have to find another way if he really wants to land the defender at Villa Park.
Leeds are quite secured when it comes to financial structure. They have disbursed their transfer kitty quite brilliantly and also are sitting on a large pile of cash following their sale of Chris Wood to Burnley. The striker was sold for a fee of £15m and Leeds are now ready to make a good use of that money.
