Leicester City must have been flying high since their triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in the last match. Claude Paul has had a quite turbulent campaign so far and would be looking to only better his record.
However, he would need some reinforcements in the summer as Leicester would be aiming for a place in the top ten. Leicester have been linked with a move for Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi.
The midfielder has been a massive revelation in the La Liga and has been targeted by a number of clubs. The Foxes saw their bid of £30m rejected in 2016 and now according to reports they are ready to revive their interest in the French international.
Nzonzi has been a different player than what he used to be in his Stoke City days. The 28-year-old handed a transfer request in the summer but no clubs were ready to splash out the £36. 1m which is believed to be his release clause.
Leicester came close last year but the player remained on the books of the Spanish club. But recent reports revealed the French midfielder has been training separately for the last few days.
This happened following an alleged spat between Sevilla manager Eduardo Berizzo and the player. The player was substituted during the Champions League match against Liverpool and the midfielder didn’t take this matter very well.
Leicester must have been aware of the situation and might want to take a good view of the current situation. The Foxes lost their marksman Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea on the deadline day and also saw their move for Adrien Silva got foiled due to a 14 seconds delay in the submission of transfer papers.
They did bring Vicente Iborra from Sevilla and now have set their sight on their second target from the Spanish club.
Nzonzi has excelled in the deep-lying midfield role and has been a one-man army in the Sevilla midfield. The lanky midfielder is famous for his long stride from the midfield and his combativeness in the middle of the pitch would be of much help. His earlier experience of playing in the Premier League also would be in his favour, so overall he would be a perfect match for the Foxes.
Fellow Premier League side Arsenal are also following his move and might make an approach for the player. So it won’t be an easy task for Claude Puel’s side it seems.
