A 1-1 result was not what Mauricio Pochettino had in mind when his side began the match against a lowly West Bromwich Albion who came into the match without a manager in charge. Pochettino’s men were made to toil hard to get the goal and had to chase the game for the most part having fallen behind to a Salomon Rondon goal in the fourth minute.
West Bromwich Albion left the Wembley stadium the happier of the two teams after playing out a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. Next up, West Bromwich Albion have former Newcastle midfielder Gary Megson in temporary charge after Tony Pulis was sacked when his team lost 4-0 to Chelsea last time out on their home turf.
They faced a fellow struggling Newcastle United side low on confidence and came away with a 2-2 draw. West Bromwich Albion themselves are struggling way more and are sitting in the 17th place in the league table. They are only two points and one place above the safety zone and have just collected 2 wins from a possible 14 in the league so far.
Things will look to change now after West Bromwich Albion confirmed that Alan Pardew is their new manager. The manager has a fresh task at hand of assessing his squad and keeping hold of important players like Jonny Evans.
Pardew said, “I think the assurance I need is probably from Jonny more than anybody and I haven’t met him yet,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing him. I think he’s a fabulous player and very important for the club so I will have a good old discussion with him.”
The Baggies captain is on a contract until 2019 after joining from Manchester United for £6 million rising to £8 million in 2015.
He scored an own goal as Albion drew 2-2 with Newcastle on Wednesday but still will be high on Pardew’s priority list.
Evans has been subjected to interest from Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester City who all came knocking in the summer for the centre back. It is being reported that West Bromwich Albion rate him at over £30 million.
Amidst all this interest, the club plans to offer him a new contract that will see Evans opt to stay at the Hawthorns. He is, after all, an experienced player in the Premier League and vital for a team like West Bromwich Albion.
However, with Evans turning 30 next month, the player is no longer someone with a lengthy spell of top football ahead of him and if Pardew can scoop up £30 million for him, he can bring in quality replacements for the Northern Irishman.
