The ex-Liverpool forward still has two and a half years remaining on his current contract with the Citizens, but the club officials have now decided to extend his stay and will enter negotiations to offer him a new deal soon. He also scored the equalizer in Manchester City’s only Premier League draw against Everton this season as well.
Raheem Sterling signed for the Sky Blues following his arrival from Premier League rivals Liverpool in July 2015 in a deal worth up to £49m. His record at Liverpool was what caught the interest of Manchester City. The forward was famously part of the ‘SAS’ at Liverpool with Suarez and Sturridge and went on to score 23 goals and made 25 assists in his 135 appearances for the Reds of Merseyside.
Since his arrival in Manchester, his goals-to-matches ratio has improved considerably. The English international has gone on to make 113 appearances for the Sky Blues, where he has scored 34 goals and made 35 assists to date.
Arsenal has already shown interest in securing the services of the 22-year-old during the summer but were reluctant to give up Alexis Sanchez in their attempts to acquire Sterling. The Citizens pulled out of the deal and since then, Raheem Sterling has been the star man under Guardiola at the club.
Pep Guardiola’s men are currently eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table with their bitter rivals, Manchester United chasing them in the second spot. They will need all their resources, at their finest to pull it off and Sterling certainly remains one of the manager’s prime resources.
