Stoke City’s misery just got deeper following their loss to Liverpool in the last match. The Reds made a mockery of them at the BET365 Stadium as they thrashed them 3-0 to get back to winning ways.
December has always been a gruelling month but this time it could prove to be more than that. Stoke are currently on the firing line and they need to find out a way to a win when they host Swansea City this weekend.
Paul Clement is facing a similar situation that of Mark Hughes but the latter is in a bit safer position. Swansea are clinging to the danger zone currently and Clement’s job is hanging by a thread.
Hughes has some serious business to work on and this match against Swans could offer him a lifeline. Stoke are just 3 points above the relegation zone and they wouldn’t want to be engaged in the relegation battle.
A win from this match would be enough for Hughes as it would provide a temporary relief but there would be ample opportunities to get them out of the current situation.
Predicted 3-4-2-1 Stoke City Starting Lineup Against Swansea City
Defence
Lee Grant couldn’t do much against a mighty Reds and will be hoping for a much better showing against Swansea.
The three-man backline has had his ups and downs and Hughes is set to use it again. Ryan Shawcross and Kurt Zouma continued their show in the last match and should find them in the starting lineup.
Bruno Martins Indi replaced Kevin Wimmer in the starting lineup and Hughes should continue with the Dutchman in the defence.
Midfield
Darren Fletcher has adapted well at the BET365 Stadium but in the last few matches, he hasn’t had much luck. The former West Brom midfielder needs to put a solid display in the next one and take the onus of marshalling the midfield for his side.
Joe Allen’s will have a large void to fill and the Welsh international will be well aware of that.
Mame Diouf will continue in the right wing back position while Eric Pieters will be on the left side.
Attack
Ramadan Sobhi had to sit out the last match as Hughes opted for a more experienced Peter Crouch to see out Liverpool. Sobhi is likely to be recalled for this match.
Xherdan Shaqiri has been the main resource for Hughes and the Swiss international will start the proceedings.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will be up front.
