Rangers are in desperate need to find a new manager who can navigate the club in the right direction. A lot of names have been emerging lately but nothing concrete has been materialized as of now. Frank de Boer is one of them and in one of his recent interviews, he didn’t rule out a return to the Ibrox Stadium. Although such speculations have dried up lately, the Gers should indeed pursue de Boer as bringing him in would be an astute move by the Glasgow-based club.
Pedro Caixinha’s reign as the manager of Rangers didn’t last even a year and it was because of the timorous form of the troops under his tutelage that led to his exit. He hardly seemed to be the right man for the job and clashes with some of his key players worsened his case. The Portuguese lost all of three Old Firm derbies against Rangers’ arch-rivals, Celtic, and failed to close the gap between Rangers and the Celts in the domestic league.
Besides, the Light Blues were eliminated from the Europa League by Luxembourg minnow, Progres Niederkorn, under his command and after his exit from Rangers, Graeme Murty is the one who has been appointed as the interim manager of the club.
Although Murty started brightly, with wins against Heart of Midlothian and Partick Thistle, Rangers have lost their last two games, comprising of losses against Hamilton Academical and Dundee and no wonder why they are seemingly interested to leave no stone unturned to appoint Caixinha’s heir.
It wouldn’t be an absurd move if the Teddy Bears reignite their interest to get hold of de Boer, who has a considerable amount of managerial experience under his belt. The former Netherlands international had managed Ajax and Internazionale, before moving to Crystal Palace this summer.
However, his tenure at the Selhurst Park didn’t last very long as he was sacked after the Eagles failed to win any of their first four games in the Premier League.
It goes without saying that de Boer would be looking to better his credentials as a manager once again and thus, venturing into the Scottish club might be an interesting choice for him. He once played for Rangers and a reunion might be the much-needed change for the club as well as the 47-year-old. However, it would be a tricky one too, for he hasn’t managed any Scottish side so far in his managerial career.
