Leeds United have enjoyed first few see-saw months into their new season. When Garry Monk shocked Leeds United at the end of the last season by resigning from his job, it brought into the picture Thomas Christiansen. The ex-Spanish international guided Apoel Nicosia of Cyprus to the last 16 of the Europa League and to the Cypriot first division title last season before taking over at Leeds United.
When Christiansen walked into the club, the board was hoping to see the positive effect of having a foreign manager, in a manner somewhat similar to what David Wagner has had at Huddersfield Town.
Unlike the Leeds United board, Thomas Christiansen was welcomed with a touch of skepticism by the rest of the country, largely because he had not managed in such an intense league before and partially because the club fans still wanted Monk back. However, the Spaniard won over all his critics and the fans with his side’s new philosophy of football.
Leeds got off to a flying start to their new season. Fast flowing football that was easy on the eye and a defence that since the opening game at Bolton had conceded three goals in eight games, meant that Leeds could not have hoped for a better start.
Things rarely go smoothly forever, especially for a manager in an English league. Christiansen saw his side lose form drastically and crash to three consecutive defeats. Such disastrous drop in form shocked everyone who thought Leeds United would make a charge for the title this season.
The Leeds machine began to show more signs of crack as the league progressed and they now stand eighth on the table after eight defeats from nineteen games.
The situation at Elland Road has grown gloomy and criticism and suggestions have started flying in for the manager and the board’s office at no extra cost. New signings are being suggested and players are being asked to be replaced.
One such position where a new signing has been suggested is that of a striker. Leeds United on loan striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga has some fitness concerns to deal with, according to reports.
This has led to Leeds United being linked with Red Bull Salzburg’s Israeli striker Moanes Dabour. Dabour has been in great form for the Austrian team this season. He has already notched up a fantastic 13 goals in 18 games this season and is looking in very good shape.
The 25-year-old striker will now be tempted by Leeds to come to England. However, whether Dabour will leave the league trophies and European football, which he gets in Austria, for a chance to come and play in England remains to be seen.
