As Marco Silva’s stock grows, Watford visited the town of the Toon with some heavy confidence gained after a victory over West Ham last week. A tidy finish from Will Hughes, a nightmare of an own goal from Yedlin and a brilliantly taken one from Gray was enough to demolish the hosts. Here’s how the Hornets have been rated:-
GK: Heurelho Gomes – 7/10
His presence and the command is vital in the box and he stepped up again today to make the saves whenever needed and the clean-sheet is a reward for his work.
CB: Adrian Mariappa – 7/10
His steady form and positive efforts have kept him in the team still and he did not let the team down. Aerially he looked good today.
CB: Christian Kabalese – 7.5/10
He certainly made his presence felt today. Intervened crucially against Gayle and made crucial blocks too.
CB: Miguel Britos – 6/10
Tidy and complimented his other centrebacks well.
RWB: Kiko Femenia – 5.5/10
He looked kind of slow today and didn’t look like he was at his full fitness. He was caught out of position a lot of times and made no impact down the right as the game went on.
LWB: Marvin Zeegelaar – 8.5/10
His Watford career has gotten off to a sensational start. He was the nuisance for Newcastle as he had a major impact on both the first half goals. His cross to Hughes was very sweet. Doesn’t look like Watford are missing Holebas.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 7.5/10
Grew as the game went on and gelled very neatly with Cleverly to establish a grip on the proceedings. He truly has become a vital part of this team.
CM: Tom Cleverly – 7/10
Complimented well Doucoure really well and passed the ball along accurately whenever he could.
RAM: Will Hughes – 7.5/10
Classy on the ball and took his chance excellently to finish and give Watford the lead. He certainly is buzzing with two solid performances in two weeks.
FW: Richarlison – 7/10
He had a silent game compared to the previous game weeks but his play was significant for Watford’s third. He just can’t score or assist nowadays, can he?
ST: Andre Gray – 6/10
Missed a fair share of good chances but he certainly did take the cross from Richarlison well. He has a tough afternoon but a goal and the win for the team must soothe his personal emotion
