Everton’s season seems to be back on track following their positive performance in the last two matches. The Toffees still need to develop a lot on the back of their recent performance and manager David Unsworth has a tough task to cut out.
The Toffees were very busy in the summer, bringing a host of players at the Goodison Park but looking at the current situation, they will be needing some kind of a massive overhaul in the winter transfer window to help their cause of staying back in the Premier League in the next season.
Everton have reportedly set their sights on Sampdoria defender Lucas Torreira. The 21-year-old is having a sensational season and he has already lit it up with three goals to his name.
Torreira’s form has also been an inspiration for Sampdoria who are having a notably good season so far. The Italian side already made the headlines with their convincing win over defending champions Juventus in the last match.
They are already looking like a formidable unit and there would be much more in the offing as it seems. Currently, Sampdoria are comfortably sitting in the sixth place in the Serie-A table and are looking to fancy their chances as the season unfolds.
Sampdoria sporting director Carlo Osti confirmed there are a number of clubs who have enquired about the player’s availability but they have no intention of selling him in the winter transfer window.
“Torreira has gone from Serie B to A with ridiculous ease.
“It was said that if he scored even just a few goals, he’d be perfect. He’s already scored three and my phone rang continuously on Monday.
“Still, no-one will leave in January, even if everyone’s already asking me about him.”
A defensive midfielder who loves to move the attack forward for his side from the deep. He initiated the proceedings in the last season as well and has already marked his presence with some breathtaking football. If he is to leave, Everton would have to dig deep into their coffers as Sampdoria are likely to command a hefty fee.
The youngster hogged the limelight with his excellent free-kick against Chievo Verona as Sampdoria went on to crush them by 4-1 in the Serie-A this season.
Everton brought in Morgan Schneiderlin in that position but the French man has failed to put in a convincing display, forcing the Toffees gaffer to rethink for some alternative solution and Torreira could be that player for the Merseyside outfit.
