Manchester City might be in the driving seat in the Premier League but that hasn’t interrupted Pep Guardiola’s scouting system at all. The league leaders are currently defying all the odds in the English top tier as they are yet to taste defeat this season.
Guardiola was pegged back last season as he took a little bit of time to understand the pros and cons of the Premier League football but it was too late for him as he failed to win any silverware in a season for the first time in his managerial career.
The agony of the last season seemed to be hurled back this time around, as the Sky Blues have been in command and no team have been able to stop their juggernaut from rolling so far.
Backed by their Qatari owner, City had a pretty successful transfer window but the Spanish gaffer is likely to demand a couple more players in the January transfer window.
According to reports, City are interested in Barcelona youngster Mateu Jaume. The 17-year-old is being seen as the future of the Catalan side and is knocking on the door of the senior side.
The Spaniard impressed in the U17 World Cup, which was recently held in India. Spain went on to feature in the final but got the taste of their own medicine as they were trashed 5-2 by a much superior England team.
A product of the La Masia academy, the right-back has a very bright future ahead and clubs across the globe have been craving for his signature. His current contract runs until 2018 but Barcelona are determined to keep the player at the club.
But Spanish law doesn’t approve them to offer the player a new professional contract until he turns 18 and this could be the best opportunity for Man City to jump in the situation.
Bayern Munich were very close to bagging the player as they were in the final stage of the discussion but the deal failed to materialise and the player went on to remain on the books of the Catalans.
Pep Guardiola almost reshaped the fullback section in the summer but Mateu is unlikely to be introduced to the Premier League if he arrives in Manchester. He would be inducted into the famous Manchester City Academy, which is known to be one of the best in Europe.
Jaume has also featured for the Barcelona U19 side in the UEFA Europa Youth League and has all the necessary qualities in him to be the future star for his country as well as the club.
