Real Madrid are eyeing up a cheeky move for AC Milan defender, Leonardo Bonucci. TalkSPORT reports that the Galacticos are lining up an audacious approach to snap up the Italian’s services. After spending seven years at Juventus, the 30-year-old Italian signed for AC Milan in the summer as part of a deal worth £35m. He was also being tracked by Premier League clubs which include Chelsea and Manchester City. However, the defender was reluctant to move out of Italy and has since been made the captain of the current AC Milan side.
According to reports in Fichajes, as covered by talkSPORT, the Madrid giants are ready to test the Italian defender’s resolve once again by presenting him with the opportunity to join them. The report also claims that the European champions have made Leonardo Bonucci a priority target for the January transfer window and will try to convince him to make a move abroad.
Another report on OKDiario, as covered by Football Italia, claims that Los Blancos are interested in him because Bonucci is vastly experienced and possesses both the “physical and technical ability” to shine at Madrid. The Italian is also not cup-tied in the Champions League, so his arrival would be a welcome addition.
He’s also not featuring in next year’s FIFA World Cup 2018 after Italy failed to qualify for the spectacle. This means that the Galacticos can “squeeze the maximum from him” towards the end of the current campaign. However, the defender won’t come cheap as AC Milan will at least demand the €40m they paid Juventus last summer.
Real Madrid have made a mediocre start to the season and currently find themselves in third place behind Valencia and current league leaders Barcelona in the La Liga table. They have conceded 9 goals in 12 games, which is not that bad of a record to begin the season with.
However, such are the high standards of the teams above them that the Madrid giants are now feeling the need to add to their squad. And there’s hardly anyone better than the experienced Leonardo Bonucci to come in and improve their defence.
The 3o-year-old centre-back has made 319 appearances for Juventus and 18 appearances for AC Milan. He also has 75 caps for the Italian National team. His wealth of experience is second to none and the defender still has a good few years ahead of him. The move to Madrid makes sense but it remains to be seen whether the Italian is finally willing to move abroad.
