Chelsea could not have asked for an easier night in Europe to qualify for the next round of the UEFA Champions League. The night ended with the Blues dispatching Qarabag 3-0 without ever having to switch gears. Here is a look at the performance of the players tonight.
Chelsea Players Rated In Their Comfortable Win Against Qarabag
Thibaut Courtois: 6.5
Was beaten early on in the match only to be saved by the post. Could have pulled out a sleeping bag for the rest of the match as he was hardly troubled by a Qarabag side reduced to ten men.
Davide Zappacosta: 6.5
No pressure on the wing backs meant that Zappacosta’s average position was near about the penalty area of the Qarabag goal. Did not do anything outstanding but did not make any glaring mistakes either.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
An easy night for a defender of Azpilicueta’s standards, he was equally impressive when shifted out to left wing back.
David Luiz: 7
A long-awaited return for the Brazilian. Qarabag hardly possessed any threat to his defending skills.
Antonio Rudiger: 7
Nothing much to do in the defensive third but was useful every time he surged up to help the attack.
Marcos Alonso: 6.5
Had acres of space on his side but was unable to use them perfectly. He did not commit any defensive mistakes either.
N’Golo Kante: 7.5
Qarabag were left questioning about the little mystery man tackling away every ball in the midfield from them. Turns out it was Kante as usual.
Cesc Fabregas: 8
The Spaniard had a ball with the ball. It is on these nights that the best of Fabregas can be seen. Orchestrated all the attacks brilliantly, while rotating possession with ultimate composure and bagged himself a smart penalty to get on the score sheet.
Pedro: 7
Good match for the Spaniard although he will feel left out that he could not score a goal.
Eden Hazard: 8.5
Chelsea are really seeing the best of Hazard again with the Belgian playing a crucial for both goals while he was on the pitch. A penalty and a world-class back flick to set up Willian meant that Qarabag were taken out of the game before half-time.
Willian: 9.5
Chelsea’s possible man of the match on the night as he bagged himself two good goals, the second one a brilliant low drive from outside the box. Was responsible for earning the other two penalties for his side; effectively involved in all four goals.
Alvaro Morata: 4.5
Could have scored four goals since coming on but instead chose to fall down four times searching for fouls that never happened.
Danny Drinkwater: 6.5
Again a cameo role as he did well to keep things rolling for Chelsea.
Gary Cahill: 6.5
Had nothing to do really with a ten men Qarabag side.
