Riyad Mahrez has once again been linked with a move away from Leicester City. Barcelona were keen on the Algerian winger but failed to meet Leicester’s asking price. It is now being reported that Manchester City are likely to rival the Gunners and Chelsea for the winger. As a result, a heavy battle is set to ensue between the giants of English football.
As for the player himself, Mahrez was previously keen on a move away from Leicester City. For Arsenal, if Sanchez leaves, the onus of attacking football from the wings would have fallen on someone like Mahrez had Wenger couped him up. He would have directly walked into the side in Chelsea as well that stills need some creativity from the wings should Hazard go missing and Mahrez’s sleek style of dribbling football and prior experience of being the best in the league will make the 2015-16 PFA Player of the Year, a valuable addition to any team.
It, however, seems now that Manchester City are the latest addition to the list of clubs linked with Mahrez. Pep Guardiola’s boys are playing some inviting football at the moment. They are unbeaten in England and Europe. Their attacking prowess has seen the club already score over 50 goals.
At City, it is unlikely Mahrez will be a regular starter; given Pep has options galore to choose from in the attacking third and the Algerian will most likely be condemned down to a role in the bench. He would still be a great addition to the Citizens as having a player of his calibre on the bench would be a daunting thought for any opposition.
He said: “I am settled, I’ve always been settled.
“Of course I wanted a new challenge, but it didn’t happen and that’s okay.
“I wasn’t disappointed for myself because I love this club and I have been through everything with this club.
“We won the League, we were in the Champions’ League and we got safety in the last two games in our first year in the Premier League.
“I went from the Championship to the Premier League and Champions’ League with this club – everything with this club! I am very confident here and I feel good.”
It seems, for Leicester, all is fine now but if City’s Arab owners do turn up with the money, it would be hard to say no for both the club and the player. And knowing City, they do come knocking more often than not.
