Ever since the exit of Pedro Caixinha from Ibrox Stadium, Aberdeen’s boss Derek McInnes has been one of the managers to be heavily linked to Rangers. McInnes has been touted as the favourite to be the successor to Caixinha, but as per the Daily Record, the Dons’ chief, Steward Milne, has dismissed the reports about McInnes leaving the club and has also stated that the Gers are yet to make an approach to prise their manager out of the Pittodrie Stadium.
The competition to sign McInnes is about to get feistier as The Scottish Sun has reportedly lately that West Bromwich Albion are also vouching for the 46-year-old. The Baggies are perceived to be in the obvious hunt to find a new manager after they sacked Tony Pulis from his managerial hot-seat owing to their sporadic run of form this season in the Premier League. West Bromwich Albion were humiliated by Chelsea, who smashed four goals past them without finding any retaliation on Saturday.
The loss against the Blues has put Albion on the 17th spot in the league standings and they are perceived to have been drawing a list of potential candidates to take the throne and navigate the club in a better fashion.
The interest from the Throstles should be a major cause of concern for Rangers, for McInnes would be a good signing for the Glasgow-based club. Signed by the Dandies in 2013, McInnes has done a fine job with the limited amount of resources he has had at his disposal.
He facilitated three back-to-back second-place finishes in the Scottish Premiership for Aberdeen and also won the Scottish League Cup back in 2014. He is acclimatized with Scottish football and as a manager, he managed St. Johnstone and Bristol City as well.
McInnes is tactically very sharp and knows how to derive the best out of his personnel, which makes him a highly-rated gaffer. The Light Blues now need a manager with a proven calibre to reclaim the lost territories and he seems to be the best man for the job.
Rangers were beaten by Hamilton Academical at Ibrox Stadium last weekend under the tutelage of the interim manager, Graeme Murty. The Teddy Bears are placed 4th in the league table with 24 points after 13 games and it goes without saying that they would need to step up their pursuit of signing McInnes or else, they might have to watch West Bromwich Albion roping him to the Hawthorns in the near future.
