Tottenham Hotspur have evolved as one of the main threats for Manchester United it seems, as the Lilywhites could scupper any attempts from the Red Devils to bring back Gareth Bale back to the Premier League.
The Welsh superstar has been deemed unwanted at Real Madrid and the Spanish champions might offload him after an injury-plagued year. Manchester United are regarded as one of the most likely suitors for the former Spurs winger and are also expected to make their third bid in the near future.
But Daniel Levy had a clause inserted into the terms of the deal, which gives Tottenham the chance to match any offers for Real Madrid to receive from the Premier League. And since the clause is valid until 2019, the Lilywhites might exercise that to have the first say on bringing Bale back to English football.
However, can Gareth Bale be an option for Tottenham Hotspur? Even though the London giants gives no consent on bringing Bale back to the Premier League, their own sets of fans will be delighted to have their prodigal son return to the club.
Spurs, themselves, should be plotting to go big next summer. After three successful years under Mauricio Pochettino, one would think that it’s past time they make a strong statement in the Premier League and splashing the cash in the transfer market could be a perfect way to stark.
The London giants have always lacked the presence of a consistent winger for the past few years. Erik Lamela has shown promise but his injury-plagued career at Tottenham clearly doesn’t help Pochettino. And while Heung Min Son has also been pretty good of late, the addition of Gareth Bale will no doubt take Spurs into a higher stratum.
The 28-year-old is definitely one of the best attackers in the world, and thoughts of him coming back to Tottenham will be as enticing as it gets. Bale has all the talents in the world, to make Tottenham a strong contender for the Premier League, which has been eluding them for quite some time now. But more importantly, the Real Madrid superstar has significant exposure in the Premier League, which could help him settle quickly at Spurs.
The chances of Gareth Bale returning to his former club is very non-existent and Spurs flushing out £85 million on a single player still seems far from possible at the very moment. However, it will definitely be interesting to see how this transfer saga pans out in the future.
