The blockbuster fixture of Scottish football awaits us this weekend. The Scottish Premiership has been missing the ‘Old Firm Derby’ for four long years which makes this one even more significant. Celtic and Rangers, separated by just four miles, are two clubs who absolutely hate each other and shares a rivalry that is considered among the very best in world football. Celtic have been ruling Scottish football in the last five years while Rangers were absent from the top tier for four years since their liquidation.
We can expect a classic at Celtic Park this Saturday but I would say that the Hoops are clear favourites for the encounter. Here are three reasons why.
Celtic have the momentum
Celtic will be high on morale and form when they take on their arch rivals at Parkhead this Saturday. Brendan Rodgers’ side have already booked a spot in the Champions League group stage and have had a perfect start to the Premiership campaign winning three out of three. The Bhoys are on the back of an emphatic 4-1 win over last two seasons’ runners up Aberdeen and should be confident against Rangers.
Rangers’ team chemistry is not yet as desired
Mark Warburton would have definitely liked if the Old Firm Derby was scheduled for a later date. The Gers made as many as 11 first-team additions throughout the summer and building the team chemistry after such an overhaul is not an overnight process. Two wins, two draws from four games- Rangers have been far from impressive in their Premiership campaign but it is understandable. Celtic should not find it much difficult to beat the Rangers side which is still in transition.
Rangers’ leaky defence and Celtic’s deadly attack
Celtic have scored goals for fun this season so far. Leigh Griffiths is as always enjoying his game in front of the goal while Scott Sinclair and a resurrected James Forrest are both in form and add a goal threat from the flanks. Tom Rogic is also on a good run and can easily tear apart Rangers’ leaky defence with his vision and creativity. Rangers failed to keep a clean sheet so far in the Premiership this season and on paper, the contest between Celtic attack and Rangers defence looks like a one-sided affair.
