Everton’s miserable season saw a shift of gear as the Toffees left it very late to register a comeback win against Watford. Everton fought back from a 2-0 deficit and sealed the match with a Leighton Baines winner as the crowd went berserk at the Goodison Park.
It might be the start of a new chapter as the Merseyside club looked pretty determined against the Hornets. Despite investing rigorously in the summer, their performance dipped heavily from the start of the season and they have failed to live up to the expectations of their fans. Yesterday though they failed to win against the basement side Crystal Palace yesterday and that must be of some concern.
However, chairman Farhad Moshiri is ready to rebuild the squad in January and to undergo another squad overhaul. If reports are to be believed, Everton are tracking Dynamo Kiev defender Domagoj Vida.
The 28-year old’s contract will be over by the end of this year and he has made it pretty clear he wants to explore new things. The defender has a commendable presence in the Kiev defence and Everton’s stuttering backline might get a lifeline if the player arrives in January.
He arrived at the club back in 2013 from Dinamo Zagreb and since then his reputation has been on the rise. Usually, a player is at his prime after 27 so it could be the perfect time for the player to leave the club in search of a new challenge.
For Everton, both Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams have failed to put up a convincing display in the heart of the defence and it seems Toffees would need a new partner for Michael Keane. Vida can be fitted anywhere in the defence but his credibility lies mostly as a centre back.
AC Milan are also keeping a tab on the player and are likely to make an approach in January. Like Everton, they also splashed the cash without any hesitation but results have been very poor and the Italian club want to change that.
The Croatian international has racked up over 150 appearances for his club and this season he already has two goals in his tally. Physically he is well built enough to take up the challenges in the Premier League.
Despite defeating Watford and drawing against Crystal Palace, Everton are very much in the danger zone and they need to keep on going if they want to have a respectable finish this season. Kiev might be ready to let the player leave in January but Everton will have to quote a very handsome fee.
