Championship outfit, Leeds United, have been very timorous in their outings lately. After losing three league games on the trot, Thomas Christiansen’s troops find themselves at the 10th spot in the league table with 23 points to their name from 16 games.
The Whites do need to hit the ground up and running to bolster their chances of bagging a promotion and here are three Leeds United players in particular who need to showcase their excellence in the coming weeks.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga
Signed on loan from Hamburger in the summer, Pierre-Michel Lasogga is yet to fire in the manner Leeds United fans would have hoped for. The German striker, after scoring a brace in his debut game for Christiansen’s side back in September, has seen a dip in his form.
On plenty of occasions, he has been found isolated up front and looked bereft of his predatory instincts as well. So far in the Championship, he has bagged 5 goals in 10 games and does need to up the ante considerably from here onwards.
Pontus Jansson
Pontus Jansson was unarguably one of the finest players for the Yorkshire-based club last season as he injected a lot of resilience, steel and mettle into the backline of Garry Monk’s side which went very close to secure a promotion to the Premier League, before crumbling like a house of cards during the business end of the season.
The 2017-18 campaign has been hot-and-cold for Jansson and frankly speaking, he hasn’t been very consistent. There have been occasional moments of blunder from the defender and frankly speaking, he has failed to set himself as an example for his teammates. If Leeds United are desirous to clinch a top-six finish, Jansson needs to get back to his best.
Felix Wiedwald
After his move from Werder Bremen in the summer, Felix Wiedwald initially showed a lot of calibre between the sticks and did have a commendable start to his life at the Elland Road. However, a series of lacklustre performances saw him fall out of favour, which facilitated the entry of Andy Lonergan into Christiansen’s tactical nous.
However, Lonergan conceded 3 goals against Brentford prior to the international break, with the goalkeeper being the party at fault in Neal Maupay and Yoann Barbet’s goals, which implies that Wiedwald might get a nod against Middlesbrough this weekend. He is a fine goalkeeper and if he gets an opportunity to start, he needs to make it count.
