Arsenal have emerged as a shock contender for Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian midfielder’s future has been in troubled waters and he has recently turned down the offer to extend his stay at the Old Trafford.
He has been offered a two-year brand new deal to continue his service under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho but to everyone’s surprise, he rejected the chance to work with Mourinho beyond this season and now is free to negotiate with any club to sign a pre-contract in January.
Arsenal are considering to lure the player to Emirates with a much-improved pay scale as Arsene Wenger wants to improve the depth of the squad. Injuries have often prevented their roller coaster ride and Wenger fancies to have more options at his disposal.
The towering midfielder was a deadline day signing during David Moyes’ reign but his presence at the English club had not been felt until this season.
He has emerged as a pivotal member for Mourinho this season and the Portuguese gaffer openly offered his support towards the Belgian international. Mourinho wanted the player to sign a long-term contract but it seems the player prefers to play regularly which is currently a bit difficult at the Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba is scheduled to be back from injury very soon so Fellaini’s place could be in danger. The 29-year old’s performance convinced the club hierarchy to trigger a one-year extension in his contract otherwise he could have left United long ago.
Fellaini’s stock has been on the rise and with World Cup looming ahead he wants to be more involved to have a clear vision of his future ahead of the football’s greatest tournament. He is definitely going to be a pivotal part of Roberto Martinez’s squad and it seems he is taking his role very seriously.
Fellaini is admired for his winning mentality and his hunger for success. The midfielder has the capability to charge ahead and push his side up and he has often been seen as a super sub in matches.
Wenger has been searching someone with great credibility and Fellaini would be able to bring a very different dimension to the game. United are unlikely to let him leave in January and are willing to part ways with him after the season ends.
Efforts are still very much on for a new contract but Fellaini knows there won’t be a dearth of suitors for him if he does leave after this season.
