Manchester United’s title aspiration is not over yet and the Red Devils will be adamant to prove their point when they host Newcastle United on Saturday. After just 11 games United have failed to keep pace with league leaders Manchester City and have fallen eight points behind them.
The last few matches had a turbulent effect on United as their near-perfect start to this season has started to evaporate away. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba helped the side to get underway in a stunning fashion as they had a smooth sailing brushing away West Ham United, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Everton but since then their authority has somehow got a bit diminished.
The absence of Pogba and Mkhitaryan’s dip in form has somehow coincided with the poor form of the English giants and the onus is on Jose Mourinho to guide his team to the right path.
On the other hand, Newcastle also are looking pretty confident at the moment but back to back loss against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bournemouth has put them in a sense of bother and they will be trying to get back to winning ways.
Predicted 4-2-3-1 Manchester United Starting Lineup Against Newcastle United
Defence
David De Gea didn’t have a good time at the goal in the international break as he had to concede three goals against Russia in a friendly match. But despite this, he has been the preferred choice in the United goal and will be up against Newcastle United on Saturday.
With Phil Jones out Injured, Mourinho will call Chris Smalling to rear guard the backline alongside Eric Bailly.
Ashley Young gave a very good account of himself while donning the Three Lions jersey and should start as a left back.
Antonio Valencia will continue on the opposite side of the defence.
Midfield
Nemanja Matic will be there in the midfield to pull the strings. Paul Pogba is very close to returning from injury but this game could be a bit of rush for him so Ander Herrera will deputise Matic.
Attack
Mkhitaryan’s brilliant form influenced the side heavily from the start of the season but the Armenian looked exhausted in some games and Juan Mata should come in his place.
Anthony Martial will offer more dynamism from the left side. The French youngster has been very productive this season and Mourinho is likely to unleash him.
Jesse Lingard will start on the right.
Romelu Lukaku will spearhead the attack.
