Fantasy Premier League returns this weekend after the international break. Game week 12 kicks off on Saturday morning with a huge game as Arsenal take on Spurs.
The late kickoff on Saturday is Manchester United vs Newcastle. Elsewhere on Saturday Bournemouth vs Huddersfield, Burnley takes on Swansea, Crystal Palace vs Everton, Manchester City travel to Leicester, Liverpool host Southampton and West Brom face Chelsea.
There is just one game this Sunday with Watford facing West Ham. The final game of GW12 takes place on Monday evening with Stoke facing a trip to Brighton.
Here are three players you should sign for game week 12.
César Azpilicueta (6.8)
Despite Chelsea having a somewhat mixed start to the season several of their players have shone in FPL. One man that is doing increasingly well for the Blues is Azpilicueta.
Granted his 6.8 price tag is a fair bit for a defender. However, he is currently top of the FPL defender leaderboard which shows he is well worth the money.
The Spaniard is also forming a formidable partnership with new boy Alvaro Morata. In fact, the pair has linked up five times already this season in the Premier League to create five goals. The Azpilicueta to Morata partnership is the most effective partnership in the Premier League so far this season. meaning it is probably a pairing you should have in your FPL side.
Chelsea are also facing West Brom this week. West Brom are currently on a poor run of form. They have lost their last three and are winless in five. So, given Chelsea will be full of confidence after beating Manchester United. And that West Brom can’t scrape a win together, it’s very likely Chelsea will beat them. Meaning that Azpilicueta is likely to get an assist and probably a clean sheet as well.
Romelu Lukaku (11.5)
While some may question Lukaku’s inclusion in this article after he has not shown up for United’s last few games. Do not worry because United are facing Newcastle this week and as is becoming quite clear, Lukaku loves to dominate the smaller teams, even if he doesn’t show up in big games.
So far this season Lukaku has bagged seven goals in 11 league games. All of which have come against bottom half opponents. Therefore, as Newcastle are a smaller team in the bottom half of the Premier League. Who have lost their last two games, it’s very likely that Lukaku will be able to bully their defence and score a few goals.
Even with his aversion to showing up in big games, Lukaku is still third on the forward FPL leaderboard. He is also just three points off top which shows he would be a valuable member of your FPL side.
Stephen Ward (4.9)
Stephen Ward’s inclusion on this list may seem odd to many people when you could argue there are so many better defenders out there. However, for the 4.9 price tag of Ward, you really can’t get any better.
Despite being just 4.9 Ward has climbed up to 4th in the FPL defenders leaderboard which shows just what a bargain he is as he is much cheaper than other top defenders. But he will still do a very solid job.
The reason Ward is so high on the FPL defenders list is due to Burnley’s solid defence. Burnley are well known for their defensive prowess. And already this season it has seen them earn five clean sheets in 11 league games.
Furthermore, this week Burnley are at home to Swansea City. Burnley are always better at home anyway meaning a clean sheet for Ward is more likely. Also, their opponents this week are not great.
Swansea currently sit 19th in the Premier League. They have won just twice all season and are also the league’s second-lowest goal scorers with just seven goals scored. Therefore, given how solid Burnley are at the back coupled with Swansea’s poor attack, a clean sheet for Ward is almost certain this week.
