Premier League outfits West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United are set to battle it out in the race for Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu this January. While Villarreal remain reluctant to let go of their star player anytime soon, that stance could change if either of West Brom or Newcastle show up with an offer too good to refuse.
Bakambu has been one of the most prolific strikers in La Liga this season, scoring eight goals in just ten league outings. However, his scoring prowess hasn’t gone unnoticed with several clubs across Europe reportedly vying for his signature.
The Congolese striker could be a huge addition to any club, given his sensational form this season. West Brom, in particular, are in dire need of a new attacker, in order to further strengthen their weak attack this season.
Tony Pulis’ men have been one of the most low-scoring teams in the league this season, only managing nine goals so far, in 11 matches.
While their defensive oriented game, executed by head coach Tony Pulis, does have a huge impact on their lack of attacking impetus, West Brom still, however, need to strengthen their attacking department if they are to survive the vultures of the Premier League.
Cedric Bakambu will, no doubt, be a huge signing for the Baggies. His goal-scoring prowess, coupled with sheer pace and trickery makes him a unique composition in the final third. Even though Solomon Rondon is a huge part of the offensive system for the Baggies, the addition of Cedric Bakambu will add an extra dimension to their overall attacking game.
Apart from his pace, the Congolese International is also known for his clever positioning. While he clearly has the finishing touch in front of goal, it’s his clever movements and understanding of the game, which leads him to be in the right place at the right time.
In fact, the 26-year-old attacking sensation can be more or less compared to Borussia Dortmund superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Moreover, Bakambu also has a physical touch to his game as well.
Despite all his flaws in dribbling or passing, Cedric Bakambu is a striker only made for the Premier League. The Congolese International will no doubt thrive under the pacy and more physical nature of the English football.
It is believed that a bid in the region of €30m would see Villarreal seriously consider their stance on selling Bakambu after West Ham were rebuffed in the summer with a €25m offer being rejected.
