Leicester’s record signing in the 2016-17 campaign Ahmed Musa is a forgotten man at the King Power Stadium now. He has made just 27 appearances in a blue shirt so far out of which 16 were off the bench. Leicester brought him in for €19.5 million after his stellar season at Moscow bagging 13 goals and 5 assists. Things haven’t gone according to plan regarding Musa’s life at Leicester and the player is desperate to kick-start his career with a move away from the club.
Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing the Nigerian International with the hope that he can help them on their way back into the Premier League. They stand 6th in the league, 9 points adrift of leaders Wolves. With still the majority of the season in front of them, Villa boss Steve Bruce has identified Musa as the man to lead his attack.
Musa’s introduction gives the team a key figure they can depend on to deliver in front of the goal and possibly reduce the burden on their midfielders, who are currently taking the onus to score goals as the strikers have failed to capitalise on opportunities.
The Nigerian forward has loads of experience to go with his quality and can pass the ball exceedingly well to create chances for his teammates. He is also a very versatile player and might provide Steve Bruce with the option to deploy him out wide on the wings as well, where his pace and aggression could be used to great effect.
The one aspect that the 25-year-old lacks is the aerial presence. The player is quite lethal on the ground and has the agility on his side but need to work on his heading ability to vie with the defenders and score goals.
Despite having discussed his qualities and frailties, it is important that he gets going from the very start. He would have no time to settle into his new club now that the season is already underway and that the Villans have some catching up to do.
This might just be the move that changes Aston Villa’s fortune and possibly regain their Premier League status back. It has not been a good season so far for them but hopefully, with a few changes here and there, Aston Villa could be back among England’s elite come next campaign. But all would depend on whether the move does go through and if the striker can hit the ground running.
